Aptitude Tests

Information on enrolment

For enrolment in the subjects or programs that require an aptitude test prior to enrolment, proof of a passed test needs to be submitted (normally by submitting a document that has been issued by the institution that carried out the aptitude test).

Aptitude test for Art, Music and Sports

In the following subjects/programs, an aptitude test is required before enrolment:

  • Teacher Training subjects Art, Music and Sports
  • Bachelor and Master programs in Music
  • Bachelor program Art Education
  • Bachelor of Arts: Minor in Art Education


  • Art

The aptitude test in Art and Art Education (for the Bachelor program Art Education, for the Minor in Art Education as well as the Teacher Training major subject Art) is offered and takes place twice annually at the University of Augsburg; in the summer semester between May and September and in the winter semester between December until March of the following year.

Registration for the aptitude test needs to be done in writing at the secretary’s office of the Chair of Art Education:

until May 15 (deadline!) if you are starting your studies in the following winter semester

until November 30 (deadline!) if you are starting your studies in the following summer semester.


  • Music

The aptitude test in Music takes place once annually at the Leopold-Mozart-Zentrum of the University of Augsburg. To be admitted for the following subjects/programs, proof of a passed assessment test needs to be submitted:

Music as a Teacher Training major subject
Bachelor and Master program in Music
Master program Music Therapy (extra-occupational)
Master program Music and Concert Education

Information on aptitude tests is provided at the Leopold-Mozart-Zentrum; here you will also find the necessary application forms. Please note that the aptitude test for the Bachelor program Music does not replace the aptitude test for the Teacher Training major subject Music, and vice versa.


  • Sports

The main aptitude test for studies in Sports in Bavaria takes place annually in the beginning of July, the location alternating between the different sports educational institutions of the Bavarian universities. Application in written form until June 1 (deadline) of the respective year is required.

Aptitude test for English Studies and Applied Intercultural Linguistics

To study the following subjects/programs, you are required to pass an aptitude test (Rules and Regulations).


  • English and American Studies major and minor in the two-subject Bachelor of Arts program at the Faculty of Philology and History;
  • English as a major subject (school subject) in the Teacher Training programs for primary school, Mittelschule and Realschule as well as Gymnasium at the University of Augsburg;
  • English in all the Bachelor of Education programs for primary/secondary school teaching at the University of Augsburg
  • Bachelor Applied Intercultural Linguistics (German: ANIS)

Diagnostic aptitude test

For first year students (Teacher Training or Bachelor of Arts) in the following subjects: 

  • French Language and Literature (major or minor)
  • Spanish Language and Literature (major or minor)
  • Italian Language and Literature (major or minor)


A diagnostic aptitude test is required in the respective language. Information on diagnostic aptitude tests:
